Converting a Lead to a Contact
You can manually enter leads using the Add Lead form, and prospects from Lead Providers come into 8i as Lead Records. Typically, you initially won't have enough information to make them a valid Contact Record instead of a Lead. As you establish a working relationship with the lead, you will want to convert them to a Contact Record. Converting a Lead to a Contact does not remove any information from the record, and additional features become available.
There are certain situations where 8i automatically converts a lead to a contact for you.
- Creating a listing for a lead’s property: Creating a listing for a lead’s property changes the lead’s status to “Listing.”
- Adding a lead as a seller for a listing: Adding a lead as a listing party changes the lead’s status to “Listing.”
- Adding a lead as a closing party to a closing: Adding a lead as a closing party changes the lead’s status to “Closing.”
Manually Converting a Lead
You can manually convert a lead to a contact by clicking the Convert to Contact button on the right side of the Lead Record Header.
Converting a lead to a contact is not reversible. A message will appear asking you to confirm if you’d like to convert the lead. Click Yes to confirm.
Identifying a Converted Lead
Once converted, you can still view the leads from your Leads Summary page. You can identify converted leads in the following ways:
- When you open the record to view its details, the Contact Details tab is displayed instead of the Lead Details tab.
- When viewing the list of leads in the Lead Summary, converted leads will display the Converted Lead icon
in the Status column. - On the Lead Infotab of the Contact Details form, the date/time stamp for when the lead was converted is recorded.

- A Note is automatically added to the record stating the Lead was converted to a Contact.
