Top Producer^® 7i for Palm FAQs

Top Producer 7i was upgraded on June 3, 2006. If you were using Top Producer 7i for Palm handhelds (TPP 7i) prior to this upgrade, you must upgrade your handheld device to the latest version of TPP 7i. Please follow the steps below.

Note: Review the steps below before starting. If you have already completed these steps on or after June 3, 2006 and TPP 7i is working properly on your handheld device, then you can ignore these procedures.

1. Login to Top Producer 7i.
2. From the main menu, highlight Setup, Applications setup, and then click Top Producer 7i for Palm handhelds.
3. Click Download Client Software. From the File download window click Run (or Open).
   
   Note: If the Information bar appears at the top of the window with the message "To help protect your security, Internet Explorer blocked this site from downloading files to your computer", then click on the Information bar, and then click Download File. Top Producer 7i will then reload. Now repeat steps 2 and 3 above, and then continue to step 4. Note: if you have more than one handheld user installed on your computer, the Select users for upgrade window will appear. If this appears, proceed below to the heading titled Multiple Users.
4. Click Finish when the Upgrade summary window appears.
5. Make sure your handheld is in it's cradle and press the HotSync button. This will install the update onto your handheld.
6. Once the HotSync operation has finished, open TPP 7i on your handheld to complete the installation process. This may take a few moments. When this completes you may begin to use TPP 7i.

Multiple Users

1. If you have more than one handheld user installed on your computer, the Select users for upgrade window will appear.
2. Select your handheld user name from the list, and any other TPP 7i users installed on your computer. In other words multi-select all the applicable user names.
3. Click Next.
4. Click Finish when the Upgrade summary window appears.
5. Make sure your handheld is in its cradle and press the HotSync button. This will install the update onto your handheld.
6. Once the HotSync operation has finished, open TPP 7i on your handheld to complete the installation process. This may take a few moments.
7. Repeat steps 5-6 for all of the users you selected in step 2 so that each of the handhelds is upgraded to the newest version of TPP 7i.

Supplementary Information For Blocked File Downloads

These steps only apply if you had a problem downloading the TPP 7i client software due to the file download being blocked by the Internet Explorer Information bar. You may if you wish configure Internet Explorer to prevent this from happening again in the future. Follow these steps:

1. From Internet Explorer, click Tools and then click Internet Options.
2. Click the Security tab and then click Custom Level
3. Scroll down the list of items until you see Downloads, Automatic prompting for file downloads. Change this item to Enable, and then click OK.
4. Click Yes when prompted to save the security settings for this zone.
5. Click OK to close the Internet Options window.

When considering the purchase of a new handheld or determining whether a handheld you own will work with Top Producer 7i for Palm handhelds (TPP 7i), it is important to keep in mind the following facts:

Device Type

Top Producer 7i for Palm handhelds will only work with handhelds that use the Palm OS. What this means is that handhelds such as the Pocket PC or Blackberry can not be used with TPP 7i.

If you are unsure of what type of handheld you possess, please contact the handheld manufacturer for further details.

Palm OS Version

The version of the Palm OS that your handheld uses is also important. Currently TPP 7i is compatible with Palm OS versions 3.3 to 5.4.9, inclusive.

Note: The Palm OS is updated frequently, and the latest updates are not guaranteed to be immediately compatible with TPP 7i. Before you purchase a new handheld, it is recommended you contact Top Producer Technical Support to confirm that your handheld is compatible with TPP 7i.

If you are unsure which version of the Palm OS your handheld uses, you can consult your manufacturer, or follow the steps below to determine your version:

1. On your handheld, tap the Applications icon, which on most models has a picture of a house on it. See below for an example:
   
2. Tap the Menu icon, which on most models has a picture of a drop down menu. See below for example:
   
   Note: if your handheld does not have a menu icon, tap in the upper left hand corner of the screen.
3. This will present a drop-down menu at the top of your Palm screen. Tap Info, which will display the info screen seen below:
   
4. Tap the Version button located at the bottom of the screen. Your handheld's Palm OS version will be displayed at the top of the screen, as shown in the image above.
   
   Note: Handhelds that are using Palm OS versions 3.3 to 5.4.9 will function properly with Top Producer 7i for Palm handhelds.
   


5. Tap Done when finished. This will return your handheld to the main applications screen.

No, it will be necessary to use Top Producer 7i for Palm handhelds. In addition, please note that you cannot use Top Producer 7i for Palm handhelds and Top Producer for Palm Computing Connected Organizers versions 1.x/2.x on the same handheld.

Top Producer 7i for Palm handhelds provides you with the same features and ease of use included in previous versions, eliminating the need to use both versions. Plus, Top Producer 7i for Palm handhelds gives you the added convenience of being able to HotSync your Top Producer database from any Internet enabled PC.

If you are currently using Top Producer for Palm Computing Connected Organizers (1.x or 2.x), you will first need to synchronize the data on your handheld with the data in Top Producer 6i or System 6 on your PC.

Following this, you may convert your data for use with Top Producer 7i. Once the data has been successfully converted, you may install and configure Top Producer 7i for Palm^™ handhelds to use your Top Producer 7i data.

Leads cannot be created in Top Producer 7i for Palm handhelds, only received.

If a lead exists in Top Producer 7i, you can synchronize this data over to your handheld. Once there, the lead can be viewed, and the contact record which it created can be edited the same as any other contact record.

To see what data is being synchronized to your handheld, you can view a filter you have applied from within Top Producer 7i.

To view a filter:

1. Point to Setup, Applications setup, and then click Top Producer 7i for Palm handhelds.
2. Click Filter.
3. To see the data which will be transferred or synchronized to the handheld during the next HotSync, click the View Data in filter link.

You can view records on each of the 4 tabs: Contacts in filter, Activities in filter, Listings in filter, Closings in filter.

You can also view a count of how many contacts, activities, listings, closings, and pictures will be sent to the handheld by clicking Statistics.

No, it is not necessary to filter your data before you HotSync. Once Top Producer 7i for Palm^™ handhelds is installed on your handheld device, simply perform a HotSync to transfer your Top Producer 7i contacts to the handheld.

Note: If the amount of data being sent to the handheld is excessive, a dialog box will appear prompting you to create a filter. If you do not see this dialog box, and you have sufficient free space on your handheld, then you should not have to create a filter.

An update for Top Producer for Palm was recently released which resolves some known issues with direct dialing from TPP7i on a Treo 680 smartphone. The instructions below will walk you through the process of installing the updated client software on your computer and upgrading the TPP7i program on your Palm.

Important Note: Please note that these instructions are intended specifically for users of the Palm Treo 680 model of handheld device. Users of any other brand or model of handheld should not follow the steps below.

If you synchronize your Palm from more than one location, please note that you will need to repeat steps 6 - 8 at each additional computer after first following the full steps at your most frequently used computer.

1. Synchronize your Palm. This ensures that any new data in TPP7i on the Palm will not be lost during the upgrade process.

2. Once the synchronization has been completed, tap on the home icon, then tap on the time in the upper left hand corner of the Palm's screen. On the drop-down menu which is displayed, tap on Delete. A list of programs will be displayed. Scroll through the list until you see TPP7i. Highlight TTPP7i then tap on Delete.

3. Once TPP7i disappears from the screen, tap Done and then HotSync your Palm again.

4. Login to Top Producer 7i with the username and password that belong to the user of the Top Producer for Palm license. Point to Setup, then Applications setup, and then click Top Producer 7i for handhelds. On the left hand side of the window, click Delete, then confirm the prompt.

5. Point to Setup, then Applications setup, and then click Top Producer 7i for handhelds again. Click More at the bottom of the window to proceed. If you are prompted to, create a filter for your data. Whether you are prompted to filter the data or not, verify that the Status of the device now reads First connected session pending. If it does not, click the Delete link on the left hand side of the window again. Otherwise, close out of Top Producer 7i and proceed to the next step.

6. Open an Internet Explorer browser window and enter download.toppro.net/treo680.exe in the address box. You will be prompted to Run or Save the file. Click on Save and save the file to your Desktop. Once the file has finished downloading, close any windows that are currently open on the computer.

7. Locate the Treo680.exe icon on the desktop and double-click it to begin the installation. Follow the on-screen prompts to install the new software.

   Note: If more than one Palm user syncs from the PC, make sure the program is installed for the correct user when prompted. See image below for example:

   

8. At the end of the installation process, you will be informed that two more HotSyncs will be required to complete the installation on the Palm. Ensure that nobody is logged into your Top Producer 7i account (assistants, partners, or additional agents) and perform both HotSyncs to complete the installation process.

   Note: The second HotSync will take longer to complete than the first, depending on the speed of your internet connection and the amount of data to transfer. Please do not interrupt this HotSync.
